Living in a throw-away society where you can buy all kinds of ridiculous foods every day, regardless of the season, has made me very aware of our wellbeing in general. For this issue of // WELLBEING WEDNESDAY // I'm going to focus on others. I have been a sponsoring parent for a little girl in Kenya for the past decade. I guess this was even before the movie 'About Schmidt" (you probably remember "Dear N'dugu"?). Anyways. I love writing letters to Mwanasiti, my sponsoring child, and my kids and I are always super thrilled to hear back from her. In her last letter she said her main foods are watermelons and oranges and she wrote about her dreams: she would love to become a teacher. I believe and hope that sponsoring this child might help fulfill her dream.
This is why I have been all ears, when I heard about the following organization:
SHARE THE MEAL has been voted as Start Up of the year at the annual Lead Awards in Hamburg, which is reason enough for me to check this website and App, which has been designed by a creative Team from Berlin and soon, starting from the 12th of November, this organization is going to launch their App globally. It's the first App trying to fight global hunger.
SHARE THE MEAL is an Initiative of the United Nations WORLD FOOD PROGRAMME. At the moment, everyone in Germany can start helping actively, rather than just dreaming what we are all thinking deep inside: with a click of your finger on your phone - whenever you have a meal, at home or at a restaurant - you can donate 0,40 € per meal, which feeds a hungry child in Africa for a whole day!
In Lesotho 50k children at the age of 3-5 are being fed with the help of SHARE THE MEAL.
40 % of the children do not have access to nutritious foods, which is crucial to their physical development, especially at this age. And Share The Meal is trying to change their situation.
Starting the 12th of November not only people from Germany, but from all over the world can start helping Refugee children, that have fled the wars in Syria with their families.
